Jon brings a wealth of legal expertise, international business experience, and a can-do spirit to every project.
“What sets us apart is our consultative, strategic way of working with businesses. Not coming in and mopping up, but working with our clients from the outset to get the big picture and details right,” he says.
Jon helps clients with start-up, partnership and buy/sell agreements, contract drafting and interpretation, employee agreements, shareholder dispute settlements, corporate divorce settlements, and merger/acquisition transactions. He also works in succession and estate planning.
He has a great deal of experience in litigation, mediation, arbitration, and representing clients in court. Jon has a strong background in Internet law and the nuances of e-commerce-focused corporate law, and helps clients appraise, buy, sell and lease domain names. In 2017, Jon was named to the Minnesota Super Lawyers list for the 2nd consecutive year, an honor that is given to no more than 5% of Minnesota attorneys.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Jon worked for high-tech corporations, where he negotiated major services contracts, developed procurement systems, and implemented national and global distribution strategies.
“We’re all entrepreneurs here. Scott and I own our own business, and we have owned other businesses. We know what it’s like. Our role is to get a deal done in a way that’s best for our client, not to stand in the way,” he says.
Jon grew up in the Chicago area and received his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. He received his Juris Doctor from the William Mitchell College of Law and taught legal writing for several years at the law school as an Adjunct Professor. Jon volunteers at his church, All Saints Lutheran in Minnetonka, where he is involved in lay leadership and in developing a strategic plan for the church. He also volunteers as a coach of his daughters’ soccer teams.
Jon is married, with two lovely daughters. In summer, you’ll find him boating with family and friends, terrorizing golf courses across Minnesota. In winter, terror moves to the slopes, where Jon is teaching himself to ski; he’s also trying his hand at hockey.
